Sen. John McCain has been one of the Obama administration’s most strident critics over September’s Benghazi killings, saying the security breakdown demonstrated “colossal incompetence or a coverup.” Just on Wednesday, the Arizona senator held a press conference decrying the lack of information on the incident from the White House.
The problem? While he held that press conference, he was missing a classified two-hour session with administration officials on the Benghazi killings.
Asked about the issue yesterday, McCain angrily lashed out at a CNN reporter. After initially trying to brush off the comments, the reporter, Ted Barrett, pressed for an explanation, to which McCain replied: “Because I have the right as a senator to have no comment and who the hell are you to tell me I can or not?”
McCain’s staff said the senator missed the meeting because of a “scheduling error.”
