Is Microsoft’s new Surface tablet literally coming apart at the seams?
That’s what some early owners are claiming. Users have started to pop up on forums dedicated to the much-hyped new device complaining that the touch cover, featuring a sleek keyboard, tears open along the edge where it magnetically attaches to the tablet. The defect leaves a wire exposed.
Microsoft didn’t immediately comment on the complaints, and it isn’t clear how widespread they are yet. But the Guardian notes that the faulty touch covers have appeared both in the United States and Europe—suggesting the defect might not be the result of isolated manufacturing errors.
Update: Mircosoft acknowledged the complaints about the cover, saying they were isolted and under review. “We are in active contact with our Customer Support operations and are aware of a small number of instances of material separation,” the company said.
