Gay Marriage Group Offers Up Brad Pitt as Ballot-Measure Hero

Brad Pitt is doing a bit of checkbook advocacy, donating $100,000 to support marriage equality initiatives ahead of Tuesday’s election.

A longtime supporter of gay rights, Pitt has agreed to match all donations to the Human Rights Campaign for the next 24 hours up to $100,000. The money will be used in the fight for marriage equality initiatives that are on the ballots of four states. In a letter posted on HRC’s website, Pitt writes: “If you’re like me, you don’t want to have to ask yourself on the day after the election, what else could I have done?”

Maine, Maryland, and Washington have marriage equality measures on their ballots Tuesday, and Pitt’s money will be split evenly. Money may also go toward fighting a Minnesota measure that would outlaw gay marriage. All in all, the HRC has invested more than $8 million in the fight for marriage equality.
