Chrysler Refutes Ohio Romney Ad; Campaign Shrugs

Ohio’s crucial electoral votes in next week’s presidential election might hinge on President Obama’s auto bailout and the impact it’s had on the state. But Mitt Romney’s new ads claiming that car manufacturers plan to move jobs overseas as a result has come under harsh criticism from a tough adversary: car manufacturers themselves.

Romney’s ads expand on a claim he made in a speech last week that Chrysler is considering moving all Jeep production to China. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne denied the assertion at the time, and since has reaffirmed that production will not leave the state, telling confused employees: “I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China.”

The most recent polls put Obama at a 5-point lead in Ohio.
