Who buys CDs anymore? Rihanna is betting her fans do—and that they are willing to pay top dollar for a deluxe version to boot.
The singer’s new record, Unapologetic, will be available in a lofty “Diamonds Executive Platinum Box.” For the not-so-bargain price of $250, fans will be treated to features that include a handwritten note, a USB drive shaped like a credit card, and a View Master featuring glamour shots from the fledgling action star’s latest photo spread.
Does anyone really want that much Rihanna? The numbers suggest the audience is there. Her last album, last fall’s Talk That Talk, was certified platinum, with more than 1 million copies sold in the United States alone.
