LAPD: Someone Might Get Shot If Celebrity “Swatting” Pranks Continue

Responding to a recent wave of “swatting” pranks—in which an anonymous tipster calls 911 to report a deadly shooting just to see the SWAT team descend on a celebrity’s home—the LAPD claims it’s only a matter of time before an innocent person is shot during one of the phantom raids.

TMZ says that in recent months, Miley Cyrus, Ashton Kutcher, and Justin Bieber have all been the subjects of such pranks. And though TMZ’s claim, from an anonymous “law enforcement source,” that the LAPD might accidentally kill a celebrity seems sensational, the raids have cost as much as $10,000 and included full SWAT teams, helicopters, and EMT response.

The LAPD is reportedly taking the pranks very seriously with an in-depth investigation. But considering Bieber and Kutcher have been “swatted,” could this be the most elaborate and meta Punk’d ever?  Someone send a detective to MTV.
