As more questions arise about the security breakdown that led to four American deaths in Libya, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is delivering a Harry Truman-like message: I am responsible.
Speaking to CNN, Clinton said she doesn’t want the attack at the American consulate in Benghazi to become “some kind of political gotcha or blame game.” She added that President Obama would not be aware of everyday security issues on the ground overseas, a defense similar to the one Joe Biden proffered at the vice presidential debate last week.
Republicans quickly pounced, suggesting that Clinton was simply protecting her boss as he heads into the second presidential debate. Several Republican senators released a statement that read: “The security of Americans serving our nation everywhere in the world is ultimately the job of the commander-in-chief. The buck stops there.”
