Has Mitt Romney flip-flopped on abortion yet again?
The Republican nominee has added another twist to his long and winding evolution on this politically loaded issue.
Romney told newspaper editors in Iowa this week that “there’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.” Which seems to suggest a move back in the direction of pro-choice. Romney aligned himself with abortion rights when he was running for office in Massachusetts, but in 2005 he renounced the landmark Roe v. Wade case and now says he is strongly pro-life.
Slate’s Will Saletan points out that these latest comments are a classic Romney dodge on a subject he has been trying to hedge his bets on for years.
