Provocateur-in-chief and occasional activist Lady Gaga dined with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after rapper MIA urged her to visit on Twitter.
Noting that Gaga planned to appear at the Harrods store across the street from the embassy, MIA tweeted that she would “bring TEA and CAKE” if she visited Assange. A day later, Gaga did just that, dining and talking with the embattled Australian whistleblower for a reported five hours. Gaga later posted a picture of the pair online.
Ecuador has granted Assange asylum, but he remains holed up at the nation’s embassy in London to avoid being extradited to Sweden, where he is wanted for alleged sexual assault.
