The theme for the next James Bond film, Skyfall, leaked online not long after English singer-songwriter Adele announced on Twitter that she would be the singer. Adele said that recording the song was one of the proudest moments of her life, and critics seem pleased: They are already comparing her to Shirley Bassey, known for Bond songs like “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds Are Forever.”
Recorded at Abbey Road studios in London with a 77-piece orchestra, “Skyfall” is the first Bond theme to share the name of the film since Madonna’s “Die Another Day” in 2002. More recent Bond themes have been poorly received, especially Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” from Casino Royale and “Another Way To Die,” the duet between Alicia Keys and Jack White from Quantum of Solace.
Despite the leak, the theme from Skyfall will be officially released Friday, which happens to be the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film, Dr. No.
