Billie Joe Armstrong, frontman of Green Day, is headed off to treatment for substance abuse after a profanity-laden meltdown at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
After having their set cut from 45 to 25 minutes to accommodate Usher, and with only one minute left for them to play, Armstrong abruptly stopped singing during “Basket Case” and laid into the festival promoters. “I’ve been around since fucking 198-fucking-8. And you’re gonna give me one fucking minute? You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me! You’re fucking kidding me. What the fuck! I’m not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers.” He then proceeded to smash his guitar.
In a decidedly less-than-punk follow-up, the band released a statement apologizing for their actions and acknowledging that Clear Channel, who hosted the festival, had not, in fact, cut their set short.
