It’s official! Apple sent out invites for an upcoming special event on Sept. 12, and the not-so-subtle “5” in the shadow seems to confirm we’re getting a new iPhone.

So what does that actually get us? If you believe the rumors, the iPhone 5 will have a new two-tone unibody design, a larger 4-inch display, and a smaller, redesigned dock connector, so you might want to hold off on buying any new accessories. We may even get redesigned earbuds.

How do analysts think this will translate into sales? Expectations are high, with some on Wall Street predicting Apple will move between 22 and 23 million iPhones during the third quarter, with as many as 6 to 10 million units selling in the first week. Wired noted a survey in TechBargains.com that showed one in five Android users plans to buy the iPhone 5.  Of course, the more stubborn holdouts are probably just waiting on the iPhone 6!
