Actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away at the age of 54. Oscar-nominated for his role as a wrongly convicted man in The Green Mile, the bodyguard-turned-actor suffered a heart attack in mid-July and remained hospitalized in Los Angeles until he died on Labor Day.
At 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing over 300 pounds, Duncan was a real-life bouncer with a deep voice who went on to land roles as a bodyguard in a number of films during the ’90s. He parlayed those into a larger part in Armageddon and a year later a feature role in The Green Mile. Most recently, Duncan appeared on TV in Fox’s The Finder.
Duncan is being hailed as a “gentle giant,” with tributes flowing from all corners of Twitter from the likes of Jordin Sparks, Roger Ebert, MC Hammer, and Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson.
