Wisconsin Sikh Shooting Suspect Wade Michael Page Was Army Vet, Hate Rocker

The Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting suspect has been identified as Wade Michael Page, who served in the U.S. Army for about six years.

While local police are calling the attack an act of domestic terrorism, other sources believe it to be a hate crime—Sikhs, with their long beards and turbans, are often mistaken for Muslims and have seen bias attacks against them rise since Sept. 11, 2001.

The FBI is investigating, and so far, no clear motive has been determined. Witnesses at the shooting recalled Page entered the temple and began firing a handgun without saying a word. He was later killed in an exchange of fire with a police officer, who was defending another officer Page had shot repeatedly.

Page was apparently a member of various hate rock bands and part of a white power music scene in the early 2000s, according to at least one organization that monitors hate groups.
