Harry Reid, Mitt Romney Dig In on Battle Over Tax Rumors

The issue of Mitt Romney’s tax returns continues this week, thanks to Sen. Harry Reid.

The two politicians are in a public battle, after the Senate majority leader suggested Romney hasn’t released more of his tax returns because he avoided paying taxes for an entire decade.

Reid’s source of information is a bit suspect. The Nevada senator won’t say who’s spreading the rumor, only that they were an investor in Romney’s Bain Capital who claims to have been close enough to the presumptive GOP nominee to know his finances.

Appearing on Sean Hannity’s radio show, Romney called the accusations “untrue, dishonest, and inaccurate,” and suggested Reid’s source was none other than the White House. But Reid has doubled down, saying the GOP candidate’s campaign needs to offer more transparency.

Whether we’ll ever know Romney’s tax truth or Reid’s deep throat, Obama’s surrogate for the latest attacks on Romney isn’t going anywhere—except maybe on congressional recess.
