Will Michael Phelps Retire From Olympic Swimming To Be a Sports Announcer?

The 20 gold medals help, but it’s true: America loves Michael Phelps. Even the president tweeted at him this week.

And that’s why the star swimmer may be on your television long after the London Olympics go dark. Sources tell TMZ that there is a pending bidding war over the most decorated Olympian, who executives from the likes of ABC and NBC would love to see become a sportscaster for future Olympic games and other world sporting events.

If Phelps’ claim that this will be his last games as a competitor, a future in broadcasting isn’t farfetched. He’d join star athletes-turned announcers like Tim McCarver, Troy Aikman, and Alexi Lalas. It’s one area where he probably won’t be followed by rising star and team member Ryan Lochte … that guy is not a born commentator.
