OS X Mountain Lion Reviews: Heavy on iCloud, Light on New Ideas

OS X Mountain Lion is here, but what will handing over $20 to Apple get you?

The reviews of OS X Mountain Lion are in, and while the $19.99 update works towards seamless iCloud integration on multiple devices, some complain the operating system doesn’t have many new ideas.

For one, you’ll start to notice the company is blending all your Apple products together, looking to integrate them seamlessly under their iCloud service. Notification Center works like its iOS counterpart, with mail, messages, reminders, and alerts all showing up in one convenient place. You can also send unlimited messages from your Mac to iPhones, iPads, iPods, and other Macs. Sharing has been lifted from iOS, as well, allowing you to post to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and Vimeo right from the app you’re in.

Reviews are mixed, however, with most agreeing the upgrade is most useful for iCloud storage, and short on new ideas—or at least the guts to implement them. When the upstart becomes the king of the tech heap, it’s a good thing; but you don’t stay top operating system dog for long without learning some new tricks.
