As if the smartphone field wasn’t crowded enough already, now Amazon may be getting into the game. Bloomberg reports that the e-commerce giant is working with FoxConn International to develop a hand-held device in a move to challenge Apple’s iPhone and numerous other smartphones that run Google’s Android operating system.
The company is also said to be looking to acquire patents that cover wireless technology, though a spokesman for Amazon declined to comment.
Adding a smartphone to its existing lineup of Kindles and Kindle Fire tablets would give Amazon one more device to help expand its core market for digital books, music, and movies. Though it may be just a bit late to try to win over the millions and millions of happy and loyal iPhone and Android users out there.
