Bullied Bus Monitor Viral Video Generates Almost $300,000 in Support

Less than 24 hours after a video of a 64-year-old woman being bullied by school children was posted to the website Reddit, an independent fundraiser has raised over $200,000 in charitable contributions to fund first a vacation – and now possibly retirement -  for her.

The video of Karen Huff Klein, who works as a school bus monitor for the Greece School District in Greece, N.Y. shows her suffering a prolonged and vicious barrage of explicit insults until she is brought to tears.  Originally generating interest in a post on Reddit, the clip generated immediate outrage. A second posting shortly after included a call to action to help Karen out, and Redditor Max Sidorov created an indigogo page, hoping to raise $5,000 in 30 days to give Karen a vacation.

The story promptly exploded across the internet and was picked up by large news outlets –Today and Fox and Friends have both had the bus monitor on since – and the fundrasier generated over $280,000 in just over 24 hours. It’s an amazing testament to the mass-scale altruism the internet is capable of…on its good days.
