Django Unchained: Tarantino Flips Another Common Historical Narrative

The trailer for Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino's new film, has been released, and it looks very much in the director’s wheelhouse.

In the film, Tarantino flips another familiar historical narrative—last time it was Jewish soldiers killing Nazis. This time it's a slave killing slave-owners.

The film stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, and of course, perennial Tarantino-ite Samuel L. Jackson. Foxx portrays Django, who joins a bounty hunter played by Waltz on a quest for the Brittle Brothers. Once they're all dead, Foxx will have his freedom and the chance to rescue his wife.

The movie will open on Christmas Day.
