Moog Google Doodle May Be Best Doodle Ever

Google has produced many tribute doodles, but the Moogle may be the coolest.

Today's Google Doodle is a fully functioning Moog synthesizer, celebrating the May 23 birthday of the instrument's inventor, Robert Moog.

The Moog's malleable sound became popular in the ’60s and ’70s through bands like the Byrds, the Doors, and the Monkees, and was an important part of any serious keyboard player's tool kit. Google's Web browsing synth features 19 knobs, a wheel, and four tracks, and allows you to play its keyboard with your own, as well as record up to 30 seconds of Moog audio.

Google's Moog project took nearly four months to finish and was rolled out a day early in countries like China and Japan that were a day ahead.

Doodle composers can share their 30 second masterpieces on Google+ or send a link—though if the tech company wants to be as well loved and famous as Robert Moog, they ought to make it available on Facebook.
