Avengers has opened with a vengeance.
The Marvel blockbuster raked in a record $200 million in its opening weekend, smashing the $161 million mark previously held by the Harry Potter finale, and drawing more ticket sales worldwide than precursors Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America combined.
A star-studded evil-fighting cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansnson, and Mark Ruffalo likely helped the film. And with a brief cameo from Marvel-guru, Stan Lee, the world’s comic lovers seem likely to give their stamp of approval alongside mainstream fans.
Avengers’ box office success may also be a good sign for upcoming blockbuster hopefuls like The Amazing Spider Man and The Dark Knight Rises. That said, Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne don’t really hold a candle to the Hulk in the “smash hit” department.
