New York Yankee fans are in shock over the news that pitcher Mariano Rivera has torn his ACL and meniscus, ending his season and, quite possibly, his career.
Tracking a fly ball during pre-game batting practice in Kansas City, Rivera apparently caught his cleat where the outfield grass meets the warning track, causing his knee to buckle.
The 42-year old Rivera, who has 5 World Series rings and a record 608 saves, is considered baseball’s all-time greatest closer.
An emotional Rivera told reporters he’ll decide after the season ends and rehab is well under way whether to hang up his 18-year career in the majors.
