Munch’s “The Scream” Sets Auction Record

Edvard’s Munch’s iconic painting The Scream has set a new standard for the one percent.  

The colorful 1895 pastel that has become a symbol of existential dread sold at auction for a record 120-million dollars.

The painting now claims the spot for most expensive piece of art ever sold at auction, displacing Picasso’s “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust”.  

Images of Munch’s masterpiece have shown up in all corners of popular culture, rivaling the Mona Lisa as one of most recognizable artworks in the world.  

The new owner was not identified by Sothebys.  Three other versions of the work are at a museum in Norway.
