Even repressive and unpredictable Middle-Eastern autocrats can be hilarious it turns out. The first scene from Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming film The Dictator is giving fans high hopes for the comedian’s latest character based satire ahead of its May 16 release.
The new clip sets up the history of Baron’s new character, General Admiral Haffaz Aladeen, uncontested ruler of the fictional oil rich country Wadiya, and a man so bent on his own self image, he’s changed the very words for “positive” and “negative” to his name, leading to gems like this medical scene.
Cohen, known for bringing his fictional characters into reality, has made several high-profile appearances as Aladeen, including at this year’s Oscars, and over the weekend at a convention of the National Association of Theater Owners, where he poked fun at the head of DreamWorks animation, saying “I thought I was the only dictator here tonight, so imagine my surprise when I found out Jeffrey Katzenberg was speaking!”
