This week, most college kids are probably focusing on finals, but President Obama is focusing on them.
The president stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’s taping at the University of North Carolina this week to do everything from joke about his White House “rental,” to “slow jam the news” with the help of Fallon and the Roots—all to wild applause from the student audience.
The visit reflected the president’s focus on young people this week in hopes they will help him get re-elected. He’ll need their help—in 2008 Obama polled more than 30 points ahead of his opponent among young voters, and now that spread is down to just 17.
Fallon, who at the beginning of the interview with Obama jokingly asked if the president was nervous, got to ask about some serious topics, including the Secret Service prostitution scandal in Washington. Obama used the interview to further press for help in education costs—noting he and first lady Michele Obama paid off their student loans only eight years ago.
