Jon Huntsman is raising eyebrows this week for comparing America’s Grand Old Party to the Communist Party during remarks at a New York City event.

The former Utah governor was complaining about being disinvited to a major Republican fundraising event during his presidential bid, apparently because Huntsman had made statements supporting the idea of a third party candidate in 2012’s presidential race.

“This is what they do in China on party matters if you talk off script,” said Huntsman, speaking at the 92nd Street Y.

As the former ambassador to China under President Obama, Huntsman should know. He also said that his fellow Republicans were often “wrong-headed” in their policy approaches toward China.

Along with an apparent disinterest in further endorsing assumed nominee Mitt Romney, or serving as a surrogate for his former rival in 2012, Huntsman may find himself receiving even fewer invites to Republican events. Dear Jon: Maybe it’s time to stop talking about a third party and start one yourself.
