Is there anything more damaging to a floundering political campaign than being bitten by a penguin?
In a week that has already seen the candidate’s mounting financial woes and recent walk out of an interview with a student journalist at the University of North Carolina, Newt Gingrich has also failed to gain the support of at least one flightless bird.
The former house speaker’s beaking incident occurred during a recent visit to the St. Louis Zoo, and he has been sporting a bandage ever since. Maybe it was a message delivered on behalf of the animal kingdom? After all, Gingrich was in Missouri to speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting.
Lucky for Newt, it was a mere scratch, but with the GOP establishment lining up behind Mitt Romney, Gingrich’s campaign can’t afford to lose much more blood.
