Newt Gingrich Makes Campaign Cuts, Promises to Continue

Newt Gingrich may still be the nominee in his own mind, but his new campaign schedule tells a different story.

Trailing a distant third in the contest for the Republican nomination, the former house speaker is cutting a third of his campaign staff, his campaign manager, and a large number of planned stops between now and his party’s August convention.

After losses in key Southern primaries, an exodus of embedded media, and continuing cash flow problems, Gingrich is grappling with the reality that he might lose the long battle. But that doesn’t mean he’s close to giving up; on Wednesday, the candidate said he wouldn’t back down until the delegate math made his nomination impossible. “Until Mitt Romney has 1,144 locked down solidly,” said Gingrich, “I owe it to the people who have helped me for the last year to represent their views and their values.”

Apparently, the guy who wants to build a colony on the moon has other dreams that refuse to be sunk by reality.
