Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas Turns Down White House Invite

Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas has iced President Obama. Thomas, whose goalie mask bears the popular libertarian and Tea Partier phrase “Don’t Tread on Me,” declined to join his hockey teammates in a reception at the White House to celebrate their Stanley Cup championship.

Thomas chose instead to take a shot at the establishment on his Facebook page. He wrote:

“The Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties and Property of the People … This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country.”

The Bruins Goalie isn’t the first to play hooky from the White House.

In 1997 Mark Chmura of the Green Bay Packers skipped the trip to the White House, and last year Dan Hampton of the 1985 Bears refused to attend the team’s 25th anniversary of their Super Bowl XX victory because he’s “not a fan” of President Obama.
