Zappos.com is famous for doing an excellent job of serving customers, but today the online shoe and clothing retailer is in customer service damage control.

24 Million customers’ personal information may be at risk after the site announced it had been hacked. Though company representatives said full credit card information was not taken, the hacker who gained access through a Kentucky server stole billing and email addresses, the last four digits of credit cards, and other information.

CEO Tony Hsieh wrote in an email, “We’ve spent over 12 years building our reputation, brand, and trust with our customers. It’s painful to see us take so many steps back due to a single incident.”

Don’t fret too much, Zappos. Buying that pair of kicks is still much preferable to dealing with the nightmare that is the cable company.
