Jon Huntsman Getting Beat by Stephen Colbert in South Carolina Polling

Stephen Colbert: the guy whose satire comes so close with reality that he actually outperforms GOP candidates in primary polls.

The Colbert Report host is polling higher than the former ambassador to China in South Carolina—the state where Colbert grew up. Public Policy Polling puts Colbert at 5 percent support among primary voters—ahead of Huntsman’s 4 percent and Former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Romer’s 1 percent.

Colbert had hoped not only to score naming rights to the Southern state’s primary but also to get his name on the ballot along with a referendum asking whether corporations are people. None of those goals were accomplished, but the polling performance suggests the open primary either has a lot of Democrats planning to cast ballots with a sense of humor, or Colbert’s persona is gaining conservative support.
