Lowe’s is facing a backlash for pulling its advertisements from TLC’s All-American Muslim after the Florida Family Association, a conservative Christian group, condemned the television show as Islamic propaganda.
Ted Lieu, a California state senator, branded the home improvement retailer’s move “naked religious bigotry” and called on Lowe’s to apologize to Muslims and to reinstate its ads.
Lieu says, “The show is about what it’s like to be a Muslim in America, and it touches on the discrimination they sometimes face. And that kind of discrimination is exactly what’s happening here.”
Lowe’s apologized on its Facebook page for having “managed to make some people very unhappy,” but the chain has no plans to reinstate the ads.
