Gwar Guitarist Cory Smoot aka Flattus Maximus Dies on Tour

Gwar is trending after a guitarist for the satirical heavy metal band was found dead.

Cory Smoot, who had played under the stage name Flattus Maximus since 2002, was found dead by bandmates as they toured for their most recent album, Bloody Pit of Horror.

The band is known for its elaborate sci-fi-meets-horror film costumes, as well as their morally and politically charged themes.

David Brockie, the frontman who founded the theatrical band in 1984, said in a statement, “It is with a sense of profound loss and tragedy that the members of Gwar must announce the passing of their longtime guitarist and beloved friend Cory Smoot.”

The cause of death is not yet known.
