16-Foot Python Killed in Everglades;  Record-Sized Snake Had Just Eaten 76-Pound Deer

A 16-foot Burmese python was killed in the Everglades, after having ingested a whole 76-pound female deer.

Officials say the stalking predator snake was likely let loose into the wild by pet owners. The Burmese python is native to Southeast Asia, but it has now established a breeding population in South Florida thanks to pet escapes and releases.

This particular snake grew a belly-aching 44 inches wide to accommodate the whole deer, and serves as a fat reminder of the dangers of a 16-foot pet-slash-cold-blooded predator.
