Blackberry Apps Giveaway; Research In Motion Offers Free Games, Software to Make Up for Massive Service Outage

Research In Motion, the makers of Blackberry devices, is offering customers $100 worth of free apps after a global service outage last week that left users in the digital dark.

Offered as an expression of appreciation for their patience during three days of email, Internet, and instant messaging disruptions, RIM is including games like Sims 3, Bejeweled, and Bubble Bash 2, as well as productivity software such as iSpeech.

The software giveaway comes as RIM competitor Apple announces record sales of its new iPhone 4S. Four million units were sold on the opening weekend.
