U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder revealed information that top officials in the Iranian government were in on a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, along with Israel’s embassy in Washington, were the targets of a botched plot that involved C4 plastic explosives.
Though Iran denies claims to what it calls an “evil plot,” President Obama says evidence of Iran’s involvement is “overwhelming.” A Drug Enforcement Administration informant posing as a violent Mexican drug cartel associate gathered information from Manssor Arabasiar, one of the men tapped to carry out the attack. Arabasiar is a member of Quds, which is associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. He was arrested at JFK airport, but his cousin, the second hit man, remains at large.
