"Occupy Wall Street" Gaining Momentum; Unions Pledge Support

Occupy Wall Street is trending as the growing nonviolent protest garners national attention.

The movement began on September 17 as a response to a call from Adbusters to protest corporate greed, bailouts, and tax breaks for the super rich. A group of approximately 2,000 people took to the financial district in Manhattan to live, eat and sleep. The slogan of the leaderless group seems to be "We the 99% are fed up with the greed and corruption of the 1%."

Though nonviolent, there have been confrontations with police and 80 demonstrators were arrested during a march to Union Square.

The protests have been picking up steam, with reports that labor unions have pledged solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and with factions popping up in San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and DC.
