The Internet mourns Aaliyah on the anniversary of her early demise. The R & B singer, model, and actress was killed 10 years ago, at 22, along with eight others in a plane crash over the Bahamas following a video shoot for her single, “Rock the Boat.” The unlicensed pilot was found to have traces of alcohol and cocaine in his blood, and Aaliyah’s family filed a wrongful death suit, which was settled out of court.
Irreverent mourners started the Twitter hashtag “AaliyahsAirplanePlaylist,” which has triggered a backlash among fans who see it as insensitive and are urging people to unfollow anyone who tweets it.
