The Statue of Liberty is trending on news that the interior and pedestal of the national monument will be closed for one year beginning October 29.
Liberty Island will remain open and tourists will still be able to visit the statue grounds while workers renovate its interior, making it safer and more secure.
The last time the statue was closed was after the attacks on 9/11. It was partially re-opened three years later, and then fully opened in 2009.
The latest closure will begin one day after the 125th anniversary of Lady Liberty’s dedication.
