An online call for Bert and Ernie to get married has the Twitterverse abuzz.
The Change.org petition urges Sesame Street’s producers to marry Bert and Ernie to encourage LGBT youth that "It gets better."
PBS responded that Bert and Ernie, roommates for more than 40 years, are simply best friends, stating "they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
Other petitions are circulating to stop the potential marriage, but one tweeter has a diplomatic solution, "Don't you think after 30+ years we can call them common-law?"
