Memorial Day Brings Indianapolis 500, Rolling Thunder, and Sarah Palin (VIDEO)

Get out your grills, it’s Memorial Day weekend. Originallyenacted to honor lost Union and Confederate soldiers after the Civil War, MemorialDay was extended after World War I to remember all Americans who died while inmilitary service.

Celebrated on the last Monday of May, the holiday serves as the unofficialkickoff to summer, as well as the annual weekend of the Indianapolis 500 andRolling Thunder, the war veteran’s motorcycle rally in Washington that thisyear will mark the start of Sarah Palin’s countrywide “One NationTour.”

On Memorial Day, the flag is lowered to half-staff until noon and there’s anational moment of remembrance at 3 p.m. local time to honor the more than 1 millionwho have given their lives in service to country.
