Three Cups of Tea author Greg Mortenson is trending on reports that key stories from the 2006 memoir were made up.
In the book, Mortenson recounts becoming lost in an effort to climb K2, being rescued by Pakistani villagers, and promising to return to help build schools for local girls. Another author, Jon Krakauer, told CBS’s 60 Minutes that those stories, along with Mortenson’s supposed capture by the Taliban, were not true.
Mortenson responded to the accusations, saying, “The ‘60 Minutes’ program may appear to ask simple questions, but the answers are often complex, not easily encapsulated in 10-second soundbites.”
