Tax Day 2011: Filing Deadline Pushed Back to April 18 (VIDEO)

It’s April 15, happy tax day! Except … not. Actually, April 18 is tax day this year.

Americans get a brief reprieve thanks to Emancipation Day. On April 16, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act, freeing 3,100 enslaved persons in Washington, D.C.

Since the 16th is a Saturday this year, the emancipation holiday has been pushed up a day. And since tax deadlines can’t fall on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays, you’re free to enjoy one more weekend before filing those returns to the IRS and parting with your hard-earned cash.
