The aurora borealis is generating buzz because of striking pictures shot during an Air France flight from San Francisco to Paris.
Passenger Nate Bolt captured the spectacular northern lights in the course of thousands of photos taken during the 11-hour journey, which he then turned into a two-minute time-lapse video. The northern lights occur in the polar regions when charged particles collide and are accelerated in the Earth’s magnetic field.
Bolt said he was merely planning a time lapse of the flight with his tripod-mounted camera, and he was surprised when he discovered such vivid images of the aurora borealis.
