“Facebook depression” is trending on a new study that suggests a link between social networking and depression in kids.
Doctors note Facebook is the new mall where kids go to hang out, except now instead of glares from the food court, it’s mean posts from a cyber bully or repeatedly running a friend tally to prove one’s popularity, or lack thereof.
The authors of the study in
suggest parents set rules about Internet use to curb obsession and that they get a Facebook account of their own to keep an eye on their kids. A note to parents: Just set a good example and steer clear of updating the neighbors on the Joneses’ unkempt lawn.
