A rare “stars are aligned” moment has everyone searching for “lunar eclipse.” According to
, this is the first time in 372 years that a lunar eclipse occurred on the winter solstice, aka the shortest day (and longest night) of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Starting at about 2 a.m. ET on Dec. 21, Earth passed between the moon and the sun, casting a reddish-amber shadow over the moon. The best views were from Central and North America.
