This past week, the Egyptian beach town of Sharm el-Sheikh has experienced a string of shark attacks. It began when four tourists visiting the Red Sea resort area were attacked by oceanic whitetip sharks in four separate incidents. Officials ordered a ban on swimming and diving while they hunted the perpetrator. After authorities believed they had caught the shark, they lifted the ban on swimming, but a German woman was killed a few days later. Scientists are baffled by the behavior of these oceanic whitetip sharks, which do not typically attack humans.
