Summing It Up

The first question in tonight’s CNN debate is about the economy, and Clinton and Obama get the first crack at it. Clinton starts her answer by talking about her own plan, then about President Bush’s shortcomings, and finally mentions Martin Luther King at the end of her answer.

Obama, meanwhile, starts with Martin Luther King, talks about President Bush’s shortcomings, and then about his own plan.

This is a telling difference in priority as Clinton tries to boast about her economic prowess nationally and hopes that can also court blacks. Obama meanwhile is trying to retrain his advantage among blacks while assuring national voters that he has his own economic expertise.
