A college freshman at Texas Tech University who fled after fatally shooting a campus police officer Monday was arrested that night after a more than hourlong campus shutdown.

The student, identified as 19-year-old Hollis Daniels, was taken to a police station after campus police made a welfare check at his room and found evidence of drug use. When he arrived, he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, according to the Associated Press.

Daniels then fled on foot but was tackled and captured by another Texas Tech officer. He was charged with murder, according to ABC News.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that he had mobilized the Texas Department of Public Safety to assist the Lubbock Police Department. “As the Texas Tech campus deals with this heartbreaking tragedy, Cecilia and I pray for the continued safety of the students and the entire community,” he said.
